About the Original:
BANDGEEKS! A HALFTIME MUSICAL
Are you, like, a geek? Or
a nerd? A
queerball drama fag? Well, whether you were a dweeb, burnout, dork,
prep, slut, cheerleader, jock, choir hussy or art freak, this show is
for every underdog who ever dreamt big.
It’s 1989 … and in the industrial town of Elyria, Ohio, football
is king and the high school marching band is an after-thought. But this
is the year … the band is going to march at the half-time show of the
Cleveland Browns Monday Night Football Game and be featured on NATIONAL TV! The
school band director, Doug Bradford, is trying his damn hardest to motivate his
marching band kids, especially the new drum major, Joey Cranford. But,
with funding for the arts drying up, Bud Edwards (the domineering school superintendent)
is doing his best to cancel band forever!
Will the Elyria Pioneer Marching Band ever be appreciated? Will the band
get the money it needs? Will the drum major catch his staff? Will
anyone in the band get some action? What really happened at band camp?
This 80's flavored musical features original music, original marching and big,
big bangs. It's a little bit naughty and a little bit sweet … the
show for anyone who ever felt misunderstood in high school
See the show Time Out Chicago described as “convulsively funny” and
which the Chicago Tribune noted “it’s no wonder this show has become
a late-night hit” … and remember … Band Geeks got a lot more
action then you did!"
Chicago Tribune
It's "Hoosiers" with horns…a silly, slick and largely delightful
take on the music geek world
New City..."Flat-out hilarious...that's some funny shit"
Time Out Chicago
convulsively funny
Talkin' Broadway
Just imagine what might happen if South Park creators Matt Stone and
Trey Parker had discovered an unsold movie musical screenplay from the
1980s, and you’ll have the picture
Windy City Times
this hard-working, deftly-focused ensemble delivers an exuberantly uplifting
spectacle not unlike the music it celebrates. See for yourself whether “Eye
Of The Tiger” performed with a full fuckin’ brass section
doesn’t have YOU cheering your favorites on to victory!- |
